02 // Define

Back to the process

Turn understanding into a clear direction.

Define is where what we learned during Discovery starts becoming a product direction. We take the problem, the people it affects and the business behind it, and use that understanding to decide what the product actually needs to become.

The goal is not to define everything at once. It is to create enough clarity around the purpose, priorities and direction of the product to move forward with confidence.

What we’re defining

  • 01

    The Purpose

What does this product need to achieve?

  • 02

    The Priorities

What matters most as the product takes shape?

  • 03

    The Direction

    What should the product become?

  • 04

    The Value

How should it create value for users and the business?

Why GitCity exists

Build with purpose.

GitCity exists to help turn promising ideas into products with a clear reason to exist. Technology is only valuable when it supports something meaningful — solving the right problem, serving the right people and creating value for the business behind it.

That's why Define is about more than deciding what can be built. It is about establishing what should be built, what matters most and the direction the product needs to take.

The outcome

Direction before design.

  1. 01

    A Clear Purpose

The product has a stronger reason to exist and a clearer understanding of the value it needs to create.

  2. 02

    Defined Priorities

The most important needs and considerations have been identified before design begins.

  3. 03

    A Product Direction

Discovery has been translated into a direction that the Design phase can begin to shape.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

  • What comes out of Define?

A clear direction: the purpose of the product, its priorities and what the first version should contain.

  • Who decides the priorities?

We decide together. We bring product and technical perspective; you bring the business.

  • Can the direction change later?

Yes. Define sets a direction, not a fixed plan, and it is revisited as the product learns.

Next in the process

Turn direction into a product experience.

With the product direction defined, the next step is shaping how it should work and how people will experience it.
